How long is too long to get a contract signed by the seller?

I am a listing agent and respond immediately to the buyers agent throughout the entire process.

How long is too long to get a contract signed by the seller?

contract negotiations
This has always puzzled me when the listing agent takes 4 days to get the contract signed on a recent sale.  Are agents really that busy that it’s too much of a bother even on a holiday weekend to get it signed?

I’m going to say ‘NO’ they’re not.

Am I the only agent out there that actually has heard of the new fangled ‘fax machine’ that can send things all over the country right on paper?

I also must be the only agent that uses the ‘Star Trek’ inspired email a document to the seller anywhere on the planet too!  (PDF = pretty darn fast by email)

We can’t be that busy no matter what the time or circumstances to ignore a contract this blatantly.  I haven’t made it an issue with the buyers and don’t really think it is necessary but time is of the essence right?

What a great way to show your professionalism and cooperation on selling your listing.  I’m sure the seller was never informed that sometimes letting the buyer ‘sit and think’ can also make them change their minds!

Poof!  No more buyer!

I’m also grateful to the listing agent for making me re-evaluate my service skills on handling offers in the future.  I’m not going to let anyone sit around, wait and wonder!

About susanmorrison

After living in Walpole, MA for many years, our family was transferred to the west coast when I was a senior in high school. In 1983, I graduated from Mission San Jose High School in Fremont, California. I am also a 1987 graduate of Providence College with a major in liberal arts and a minor in business administration. I bring to the table many years of sales experience beginning with thirteen years in Corporate Sales at Delta Air Lines. I'm the mother of three children and I'm very active within the Franklin, MA community. I am also a cancer survivor and support the American Cancer Society Charities.

My husband and I have built five homes and I've lived in a variety of other locations including Toronto Canada, Irving Texas and my current home in Franklin, MA. As a result of all my moving around, I came to the conclusion that I was an expert at moving...why not become an expert on the other side of the table? I earned my real estate license in 2004 and believe that I have found my true niche'. I can empathize with my clients on a variety of levels; whether they are buying or selling. And, like so many other good realtors out there, I believe that possessing good communication skills is one of the many keys to success.
