Capturing Trends in Real Estate!

This is a terrific post with very important datat….more than a 50% increase in people beginning their home search online…..

The data published by NAR regarding home buying trends is very interesting as a guide to how realtors should tailor marketing programs to position various types of property:

From the National Association of Realtors…

% of US homebuyers who:

                                                     1999                    2009

Bought a single-family home               82%                    78%

Bought in the suburbs                         46%                    54%

Began their home search on line          37%                    90%

Were married couples                         68%                    60%

Were single women                            15%                     21%

Were single men                                 7%                     10%

Median Home Value                    $137,600               $172,600

Median Age of Homebuyer             39 years                  39 years

The most obvious change – using the internet to find housing – has dramatically changed real estate marketing.  The message for listing agents and sellers: make sure your listing is presented on the net everywhere, and beautifully!

The trend toward singles or unmarried couples buying homes may be a function of people waiting longer to marry, and the lessening of social pressure toward marriage.  Independent singles are an important growing market segment.  Interesting to note the growth of women outpaced the growth of men as buyers.

One thing other piece of good news … buyers aren’t getting any younger!  I’m still holding at 39 too! 🙂

About susanmorrison

After living in Walpole, MA for many years, our family was transferred to the west coast when I was a senior in high school. In 1983, I graduated from Mission San Jose High School in Fremont, California. I am also a 1987 graduate of Providence College with a major in liberal arts and a minor in business administration. I bring to the table many years of sales experience beginning with thirteen years in Corporate Sales at Delta Air Lines. I'm the mother of three children and I'm very active within the Franklin, MA community. I am also a cancer survivor and support the American Cancer Society Charities.

My husband and I have built five homes and I've lived in a variety of other locations including Toronto Canada, Irving Texas and my current home in Franklin, MA. As a result of all my moving around, I came to the conclusion that I was an expert at moving...why not become an expert on the other side of the table? I earned my real estate license in 2004 and believe that I have found my true niche'. I can empathize with my clients on a variety of levels; whether they are buying or selling. And, like so many other good realtors out there, I believe that possessing good communication skills is one of the many keys to success.
